Innovations in GIS 4

Zarine Kemp

Taylor & Francis, London, April 1997.

Abstract

Innovations in GIS 4 continues the theme of new directions in geographical information systems (GIS). It contains revised versions of a selected subset of the papers presented at the forth conference held at the University of Kent at Canterbury in April 1996.

The chapters contained in the book reflect the interdisciplinary nature of GIS research as well as its developing maturity. There is a concentration on the techniques and tools that can support and enhance the spatial analysis process in diverse applications domains as well as an awareness of the organizational context in which GIS function. This volume reflects the gamut of research issues in GIS by concentrating on five main themes: data modelling and spatial data structures, spatial analysis, environmental modelling, science, ethics and infrastructure and the impact of the internet.
